Update Friday, April 24, 2020 (Revised June 1st)
I am so appreciative of everyone’s support and enthusiasm for what I have been doing the past five weeks. When I made the face masks available to the public, I did so to help as many people be as safe as possible, and I hope that I was able to help! I finished my last donations this week, and was able to make some more for the public with what elastic I had left! I am posting what designs I have (the ones from the original post are not available).
The suggested donation for masks is $10 each. I understand there are large families, and people are getting masks for friends as well, so I am not setting a hard limit on how many you may request, I just ask that you think of how many you definitely need. These masks are reusable and can easily be washed and dried in a manner of a few hours! Shipping is $4 for regular, $8 for priority, and porch pick up in Newton Highlands is available! Venmo/PayPal for shipped requests is required. Cash/Check/Venmo/PayPal for pick up!
To make a request, email me at TheAstronista@gmail.com with which masks you prefer and how many, as well as if it will be shipped or picked up. I will let you know if a mask you requested is unavailable in a very timely manner. Here are the designs available (most of them I have more than just one available, if none are available anymore it is noted):
Purple Galaxy (Unavailable), Lunar Surface (Unavailable), Coral Reef
Nebula (TMNT is Unavailable)
April 4th, 2020
Over the past two weeks, I have been spending my time making hundreds of washable, handmade face masks, which were donated to health centers, veterinarians, homeless shelters and service workers. While I am continuing to donate to these places, I am also making these masks available to individuals on a donation basis (I have been doing this periodically, but am making this post to streamline the process). The CDC recently announced a recommendation to wear a mask outside of the house at all times (but please only leave the house if you absolutely have to).
If you would like one of the masks, I am shipping them (U.S. only) and also offering a safe pick up in Newton, MA. There is a recommended donation of $10 per mask to cover the cost of materials and to help with the costs of the donations to health centers. Since I love science and fashion so much, I have a few styles to chose from. They can be made in child size as well and will come with washing instructions.
If you would like a mask, contact me directly by emailing TheAstronista@gmail.com – donations can be made through PayPal, Venmo, or cash if picked up.
When emailing, feel free to introduce yourself! I would love to know a little bit about you, but don’t feel like you need to. The information that I NEED is:
-How many adult masks do you need and what style(s)?
-How many child masks do you need and what style(s)?
-Will you be picking up the mask(s) or having them shipped?
-Your shipping address if applicable (Shipping First Class is $4, Priority Mail is $8)
I will respond to you with confirmation of your request and information for you on how to donate. I am very quick to respond and plan on having any masks requested in the mail or available for pick up within 24 hours of the request. I understand many of us are in a difficult financial situation, so the $5 per mask donation is not a hard “price” but what would cover the materials.
These are the available styles:
Cats in Space
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Glow-in-the-Dark Dinosaur Skeletons
The masks go over the ears via elastic and are one size fits most!
Thank you to everyone who has helped me with this endeavor and I hope you are all able to stay as safe as possible. Stay home and don’t forget to practice self-care!
